Dolls House Building
Before
you actually start dolls house building whether it be a doll house
kit or a house you are building yourself from a plan there are
quite a few things you need to do. A question I am always asked
is whether you should paint a dolls house before you put it together,
well you should paint the outside before you put the house together
but there are a few other things you need to do before that.
If you are going to have electric lighting in your
doll house you should plan this before you start dolls house building.
If you have an MDF doll house you can very easily disguise the
lighting wires by cutting small v shaped grooves in the floor
of each room of your house to run the wires along. These can then
be covered with carpet so you can't see they are there. You need
to plan your lighting and cut the grooves before dolls house building.
You don't need to plan where every light will go but you need
to have an idea of where you will place your lights.
Our
Dollhouse
lighting guide has all the information you need to cut grooves
and fit your lighting so I won't go into detail here. If you are
ready to start putting your dolls house together simply click
on the lighting guide to see what you should do first.
Once you have cut the grooves for your lighting
you can start thinking about painting the outside of your doll
house. There is a technique to painting a dolls house and there
are certain paints you shouldn't use like acrylic based paints.
This is all detailed in our "painting dolls houses"
section which can be found in the left menu bar under Decoration.
When you are ready to paint your dolls house click
here and we will guide you through the process.
Only when you have cut your groves and painted the
exterior of your doll house will you be ready to actually put
the house together. You should always use a strong wood glue,
Bostic glue is very good, and make sure you follow the instructions
very carefully and in order.
So we have gone through everything you need to know
to get your doll house built and painted and now you need to start
